BEHAVIOR & ASSESSMENT

Behavior

We are very strict about the dogs we will allow into our day care program. Any dog that exerts any form of aggression is not allowed. This is mandatory to provide a safe and healthy atmosphere for all of our guests.

People are often curious as to whether dogs fight during day care. While arguments between dogs are natural, our staff members are trained in techniques and procedures that keep dog arguments from escalating into full-blown physical confrontations. The dogs at Playful Pups Retreat do not fight because we do not allow it to occur at any time. If a dog cannot maintain self-control, they will not receive a second chance.

If at any time during their stay with us a dog displays any other form of aggression we will request that the dog’s owner not bring the dog for daycare until he has gone through behavior training and modification classes. We then require a certification from the trainer, stating that the pup is safe to return to daycare.

Behavior Assessment

There is a $5.00 non-refundable behavior assessment fee. We require an appointment for all behavior assessments. This will take approximately 30-45 minutes and will include a tour of our facility. After your tour, we will review your application and other information while our staff introduces your dog to some of our pack members. We will observe his/her social skills with the other dogs and our staff members. Once he has passed our assessment tests, your dog will be ready to join the Playful Pups Retreat pack!

PET HEALTH

Regarding Vaccinations

At Playful Pups Retreat we are following the ongoing research on over-vaccinations for our pets. Therefore we understand that many dogs are on different vaccination schedules depending upon what your veterinarian recommends. We are willing to make exceptions on many vaccinations with the exception of the Rabies Vaccine, Distemper and the Bordatella Vaccine. Bordatella must be administered every six months for your dog to be eligible to attend Playful Pups Dog Daycare Program or our Sleepovers. In order for vaccines to be fully effective in protecting your pet they should be administered at least 7 days prior to your dogs stay with us. Feel free to have your vet fax your records to us at 689-3477, or you may bring them with you for your dog’s behavior assessment appointment.

Pet Health Warranty Program

Playful Pups Retreat Pet Health Warranty offers you peace of mind. You can be assured your pet will receive timely professional veterinary care, should the need arise, at no additional cost to you. This program has been endorsed by the PCSA and we are proud to offer this level of customer service to our clients.

Each guest who qualifies for the Pet Health Warranty Program will be assessed $1.00/day of their stay for optional participation in this program. Please be advised that not all pets are eligible for this program. Please see an employee for details on this program.

A Note about Puppies and Daycare

As with children in nursery school, there is often something contagious going around. Because of this we require puppies to be old enough to have had at least two sets of shots prior to coming to our Puppy Clubhouse. We do feel that, like children, the more puppies are exposed the stronger their immune system becomes. We take extreme measures to be certain that our facility is clean and sanitary at all times. Therefore, we cannot be held responsible for maladies that may occur.
