Leaving your dog overnight is never just a simple drop off. It is an act of trust.
Whether it is a long-awaited summer vacation, a weekend away, or visiting family while school is out, pet parents want one thing above all else. They want the peace of mind that their four-legged family member is safe, happy, and cared for like family.
So, what truly makes a boarding facility feel like a home away from home instead of just a place to stay?
It begins with connection. It is supported by structure. It is reinforced by environment. And it is sustained through personalized care.
At Playful Pups Retreat in Elizabethtown, we have thoughtfully built each of those layers into everything we do.
Genuine Relationships, Not Just Supervision
A true home away from home starts with people who care deeply.
Dogs thrive on connection. They feel safest when the people around them understand their personality, play style, sensitivities, and routines. It is not simply about meeting physical needs. It is about building trust.
As dog lovers and pet parents ourselves, we understand how hard it can be to leave your pup in someone else’s care. That is why our highly qualified team is carefully selected and trained in dog body language, behavior, pet safety, CPR, and first aid.
When dogs feel understood, they settle in faster. They relax more deeply. And that comfort truly shows.
Thoughtful Evaluations, Ongoing Care, and Open Communication
We begin every stay with a thoughtful pre-entry evaluation to ensure each dog is happy, healthy, and set up for a successful visit. During this process, we take the time to observe your pup closely, noting their overall condition, behavior, personality, and any unique needs or sensitivities so we can provide truly individualized care from the very start.
We pay attention to the details that matter. Who may need a slower introduction. Who thrives in group play. Who prefers one on one enrichment. Who feels most comfortable with a quiet cuddle before bed.
Throughout your dog’s stay, we continue to monitor their well-being with daily wellness checks. We carefully watch for even the smallest changes in appetite, energy level, behavior, or mood, and we document anything we feel is important.
Transparency is incredibly important to us. If we ever have a question or notice something out of the ordinary, we communicate with you right away. We believe in caring for your dog the same way we would want someone to care for our own, with honesty, attentiveness, and genuine compassion.
Every dog in our care is treated like family, because to us, they truly are.
Structure That Builds Security and Confidence
At home, your dog has a rhythm. Morning potty break. Meals. Rest. Play. Evening wind down.
Predictability builds confidence.
Each day at Playful Pups Retreat follows a thoughtfully designed routine that includes supervised playtimes, rest periods, enrichment activities, and a minimum of four potty breaks. Our final potty break takes place between 8:00 and 10:00 pm so your pup can rest comfortably through the night.
Meals are prepared exactly according to your instructions using your dog’s food from home, served in clean, sanitized bowls. Maintaining familiar routines helps reduce stress and supports emotional regulation.
We put a strong emphasis on keeping dogs engaged in healthy, balanced ways so they acclimate quickly and do not spend time feeling unsure or anxious. Even dogs who “just lounge at home” often thrive when given the right amount of structure, interaction, and exercise tailored to their individual energy level.
Structure is not rigid. It is reassuring.
A Calm, Clean, and Thoughtfully Designed Environment
Environment plays a powerful role in how dogs feel.
Our Milton Grove Road location sits on 19 beautiful wooded acres and was intentionally designed as a peaceful retreat. Our owner lives on the property and created a wilderness inspired oasis where dogs can explore, play, and rest in a safe and secure setting.
Outside, we offer:
- Six fully enclosed play yards covered in antimicrobial soft turf designed specifically for dogs
- A built-in drainage system that allows for thorough cleaning and disinfecting
- Shade structures and splash pools during warmer months
- Nature trails for individual enrichment walks
When weather does not permit outdoor play, indoor playrooms provide a safe alternative.
Inside our climate-controlled facility, guests rest in spacious accommodations with raised beds, cozy bedding, and sanitized food and water bowls. Our hospital grade UV light air filtration system helps scrub the air to reduce airborne germs and bacteria. At night, soothing canine lullabies create a calm environment so dogs can recharge for another fun filled day.
A home away from home should feel balanced, clean, and secure. Every detail of our space supports both physical safety and emotional comfort.
Personalized Lodging Experiences
No two dogs are alike. Their boarding experience should reflect that.
Social dogs can enjoy supervised group play where we carefully match companions based on size, temperament, and complementary play styles. We maintain safe staff to pet ratios to ensure positive and enriching interactions.
For dogs who prefer human companionship or are new to overnight lodging, we offer individual enrichment sessions that may include nature walks, sports time with toys of their choice, interactive puzzles, and mentally stimulating games.
We also provide customized lodging packages to meet the needs of every guest, including:
- Bedtime tuck-ins with one-on-one quiet time, cuddles, and belly rubs
- Mid visit doggie diaries and photos so you can stay connected
- Companion Care for senior guests or dogs with medical or physical needs, including extra walks and added comfort measures
- An activity package just for puppies focuses on gentle handling and positive early socialization
- Polite Pup Training sessions for guests staying four nights or more, helping reinforce basic manners such as polite greetings, leash skills, and patient waiting
We take the time to learn about your dog and help you choose the package that best supports their personality, preferences, and stage of life.
That level of personalization transforms boarding into true care.
Building a Lasting Partnership in Your Dog’s Care
Just as humans evolve and change, so do our dogs. Moves, growing families, routine changes, and aging all impact behavior and emotional needs.
We see ourselves as an extension of your family. We communicate openly, monitor wellness closely, and adjust care as needed so your pup always receives the right balance of play, rest, enrichment, and comfort.
Whether you need overnight lodging, daycare through our Day Stay Program, enrichment, or training support, we are here to walk alongside you in the lifetime care of your pet.
Summer Is Right Around the Corner
With summertime approaching and school breaks filling calendars, vacations and travel plans are just ahead. Boarding reservations tend to fill quickly during these busy months.
If you are planning a trip, visiting family, or simply want your pup to enjoy their own retreat while you are away, we encourage you to reserve early.
Imagine leaving for vacation knowing your dog is spending their days running through safe play yards, exploring wooded trails, enjoying personalized enrichment, and settling into a cozy bed each night surrounded by compassionate professionals who genuinely care.
That is the peace of mind every pet parent deserves.
