Avocados. This delicious fruit is a fan-favorite, and is incredibly healthy for humans! Avocados contain tons of healthy fat, fiber, and healthy vitamins like Vitamin C, B2, and B3. But avocados also contain persin, a fungicidal toxin that is harmful to dogs. On the minor end of side effects, persin can cause vomiting and diarrhea. On the major end, pancreatitis, heart damage, and death.

Macadamia Nuts. These delicious nuts are another healthy human snack, and who doesn’t love a macadamia nut cookie? However, in dogs, macadamia nuts can cause muscle tremors, vomiting, and paralysis.

Sugar-Free Peanut Butter. You may have heard the word Xylitol floating around the dog world, and that’s isn’t without reason! Xylitol is an artificial sweetener that is often found in sugar-free peanut butters. This little ingredient can cause seizures, liver failure, and even death in dogs.

Though not as commonly talked about as other dangerous foods for dogs, these three foods aren’t any less harmful. Make sure to always read the entirety of the label on any human food you plan to share with your pup, and remember that too much of a good thing does exist! Even dog-safe foods can harm your dog when given too liberally. It’s important to always monitor just how many treats your pup is eating, and that they are always dog-safe!
